The Diwali days are here.
Diwali-one of the most important festival, highlights the victory of good over
evil and hope over despair. This festival of lights, is celebrated with full
energy and enthusiasm all over the country. Lots of rituals are performed and
everyone has 1-2 ‘rasgullas’ in his/her mouth these days. But today I am here
to talk about the inevitable factor which adds to our enjoyment but has many
negative impacts on the environment. Yes you guessed it right. CRACKERS- the
major source of noise and air pollution are back. (Yet again!!). But wait, are
you really going to buy them?? Hear me out first.
Something I wonder what is so
mesmerizing, hypnotizing about these products. Is it the sound which they
create or the lightning show which goes on for a few seconds? Well I don’t have
an answer but I know one thing for sure. Looking at the panoramic view, it’s ok
to say that, ‘In order to create momentary happiness, we are destroying our
mother earth’. Do I need to talk about pollution??The national capital Delhi-‘the
Gas Chamber‘ is begging for mercy these days. The pollution level is pretty
high and the situation is soon going to be a catastrophic one as the Diwali
days are here. (Crackers-The perfect icing on the cake factor !!). Apart from
the pollution factor, let’s look at other cons too.
A few days days back i read
this piece of news.
“A
64-year-old labourer was killed when two plastic bags in which he was carrying
about 50 kg of firecrackers exploded, in Old Delhi’s Lahori Gate area on
Tuesday morning, police said. Four people were injured in the incident.”
And another
one.
“Eight
persons, including a child, were charred to death when a cracker shop went up
in flames in Rustampura of Vadodara district on Friday. The incident, was
reportedly caused by a spark in the cracker stack inside the shop. According to
local fire officers, the cracker shop was illegal, running from a house, and
did not follow the requisite safety measures. Among those dead were three
members of a family running the shop, a child, and customers visiting the shop.
Such horrible incidents are
bound to happen if the use is not banned. Such a tragic end of life!! Our utter
desire to buy such ridiculous items, is causing havoc every day. So let me
suggest a few methods of my own.
Method 1- You simply take a few
hundred rupee notes and burn them. Now you will think that i am insane. Why am
i suggesting such preposterous method? Well ponder upon the fact that by buying
crackers you are also doing the same !!
Method 2- You simply want to spend
some money. Well do it. There are many ways of doing so. Control your utmost
desire to buy a rocket or a flower pot. Instead go for a dress, a book, chocolates,
available on Amazon (the great indian sale) and Flipkart (the big billion days).
You will save a few bucks too.
Method 3- Some of us are really
superstitious. According to them some sort of 'shagun' is necessary i.e. they
will buy the crackers no matter what. Well i would suggest, that if you really
want to spend some money on this auspicious occasion, help someone in need.
Feed a proper meal to a hungry child, buy a few dresses for someone in trouble
and perform many such acts of kindness. In short ‘Stop to help’.
(Well I think you will
certainly not prefer the first one. So go for the next two!!)
So friends, I request
everyone to enjoy this festival but not at the cost of harming the environment.
Take a very cordial step towards avoiding these deadly little beasts.
Wish you a very happy Diwali!
