Expectations were on cloud nine in mohali as the fans witnessed something
'magical' in jaipur.( The fastest century by any indian and the most successful
run chase for the loss of only one wicket ).However those eye pleasing things cannot be a daily phenomenon and it
was worldwide clear after the third ODI between india and australia.First of
all the batting order struggled to manage 154/6 after some aggressive as well
as impressive short pitched bowling by mitchell johnson. But alas ! india made a
fightful comeback when captain cool took the charge in his safe hands. The
'helicopter shot' owner smashed 139 of 121 balls (including 21 runs from the
last over of james faulkner). Finally india managed a respected target of 303 on
the score board.
Now everthing was on the
powerful (oops !! sorry ) shoulders of the indian bowlers. And they managed
quiet handsomely till 45 or 46 overs. And then something disastrous happened. The
plight of the indian bowlers was revealed once again when James faulkner
smashed 30 runs of the 48 over of ishant sharma leaving behind a pin drop
silence among the mammoth crowd of mohali. This became a turning point of the
match and even zimbawe can score 14 runs of the last 12 balls which were left
by ishant sharma.( I wonder if he would have given 1 or 2 no balls then entire
44 runs could have scored in that over).
Several doubts needs to be
cleared now.Why was the bowling squad kept unchanged even after australia was
able to manage 359 in the last match?? Why everyone is showing a constant faith
in ishant sharma even after he is not able to prove himself match after match??
The pacer is able to get only 2 wickets in the last 3 matches so far and his economy rate is very high.(
Even our turbonator harbhajan singh is kept out on the same basis ).If ishant
then why not harbhajan?? Where are R.P.singh and irfan pathan ??
Several questions
needs to be answered but one thing is crystal clear that ishant sharma is in a
urgent need of serious attention by the selectors. The pacer needs to rediscover
himself and bring consistency into his bowling for the upcoming 2015 world
cup. After all he is just 26 years of age and the leading bowler of the indian
squad after the reign of zaheer khan ends( as soon as he is back ).The ongoing
one day series has not been fruitful for the indians uptil now.Let's see what
happens next????
